The Society is registered as a medical scheme in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 131 of 1998.

The BP Medical Aid Society has been providing medical cover since 1937, for the permanent staff and families of BP Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd.

Currently about 2500 lives are covered.

The BP Medical Aid Society has a healthy reserve ratio of 184.6% (January 2023). This is well in excess of the statutory minimum of 25%.

The Society is a traditional medical scheme with comprehensive in-hospital and out-of-hospital benefits.

The Society is managed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven members who complies to the Code of Conduct.

The Society is registered as a medical scheme in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 131 of 1998. The Council for Medical Schemes is the regulatory body for Medical Schemes.
