Farewell to BP medical aid society Principal Officer
It is with sadness and regret that we bid farewell to our Principal Officer, Thabi Mlotshwa who will be leaving BPMAS with effect from 1 February 2020. Thabi has, during the last four years served BPMAS with great dedication and insight and will be sorely missed by BPMAS.

Update on proposed amalgamation between Bpmas and Momentum Health
As previously communicated, the Society received approval for the amalgamation from the Competition Commission. However, the Board of Trustees are still engaging with the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) on the proposed amalgamation date, as the CMS declined a 1 August 2019 amalgamation. This process has therefore not yet been concluded.

Any subsidies paid by the employer in respect of qualifying continuation members will continue. Active principal members who are part of the bargaining sector will continue to receive the employer's subsidy in terms of their current legal employment agreement. Active principal members who have converted to total cost of employment (TCoE) remuneration packages, pay full contribution indicated above.
Pensioners and retirees' income (that is used to determine their income bands and contributions) is based on 50% of their last BPSA pensionable earnings before retirement. This amount is increased by the consumer price index (CPI) every year.
Years without Medical Aid cover
Is defined as years without Creditable Coverage.
Creditable Coverage
A member or a dependant of a medical scheme;
A member or a dependant of an entity doing the business of a medical scheme which, at the time of his or her membership of such entity, was exempt from the provisions of the Act;
A uniformed employee of the South African National Defence Force, or a dependant of such employee, who received medical benefits from the South African National Defence Force; or
A member or a dependant of the Permanent Force Continuation Fund, but excluding any period of coverage as a dependant under the age of 21 years;
